Need a small bed that is both comfortable and functional? Want something versatile that doesn't break the bank? If so, you should definitely consider a daybed. They can be used for storing, sitting, or sleeping. Depending on what your needs are a daybed is a fantastic option.

There's a quite a bit of variation between daybeds, so you need to know what you need in bed before you buy. Mattress type, material, and custom features all need to be considered when looking for the right bed. Do you need a wooden daybed or a daybed with a trundle? These are all questions we will answer in this guide.

Mattress Type

Daybeds are not like typical beds in that their primary purpose is not for sleeping. This doesn't mean that finding a comfortable mattress isn't important though. When buying a mattress for your daybed there are a few things to consider: How often will you use the daybed? How firm do you like your mattress? What type of mattress do you need? If this sounds daunting, no worries. We'll fill you in on all the details down below.

Size: Mattress size for daybeds is simple. The frames are generally made to fit a twin mattress so figuring out the size of the mattress shouldn't be a problem. There are some daybeds that are larger than twin size mattresses, but that is not the norm. If you need a mattress for your daybed, feel safe getting a twin bed size if it is not specified otherwise.

Comfort Level: Different types of mattresses afford different amounts of comfort. Memory foam, sprung, or gel are different types of mattresses you can find for daybed mattresses. They all have different levels of firmness from soft to medium to hard.

Daybed Use Frequency: Depending on how much the bed is used could influence different decision you have for your daybed. For example, if your daybed is mainly for guests, a medium firmness for your mattress would be appropriate. This helps to accommodate the largest number of people so it is the best choice.

Material Type

Different materials have different advantages so you should know the advantages before you decide. A wooden daybed has different color possibilities depending on the type of wood you use. If a wooden daybed isn't your style metal is a great alternative. It is a strong, stable material that can accommodate many different styles ranging from coastal to rustic.

Features

Sometimes for all a daybed can do it's just not enough. For people who need more bed sleeping space a daybed with a trundle is a fantastic option. The bed fits neatly under you daybed so you don't sacrifice style for utility. And if you would like a daybed with a trundle and still be eco-friendly that is an option as well. You can also find beds that are made with recycled materials or through energy efficient manufacturing processes if you are interested in the environment.
