Decorating a round coffee table is more than choosing your favorite accent pieces and placing them on a table. It’s important to consider placement, focal point, color, and more in order to create an aesthetically pleasing set-up. We’ll give you key points to keep in mind while decorating, and help you create an effortlessly stylish coffee table.

1. Make a Grand Statement

Working with a larger living room space? Make your decor proportional with a grand statement piece that adds height and volume to your coffee table. An oversized bouquet fills a larger round table and fits a high-ceiling space without feeling overwhelming. Bonus: You can redesign your floral arrangement – real or fake – based on season, special occasions, or even just your mood. Try switching out the vase, too!

2. Group Pieces With Purpose

Avoid a sloppy-looking placement by grouping your accent pieces with a purpose. As you’re styling your living room round coffee table, consider how they work together. Try placing similar objects together as one small group and put space between the other pieces. Keep your figurines and knick-knacks grouped together or your books all stacked on one another, organization between similar decor makes the setting less chaotic and more pleasing to look at. Maintain a triangle shape to avoid decor getting too close to the edge of the coffee table or resting too much in the middle.

3. Color Coordinate With the Rest of the Room

A simple yet effective way to pull a room's interiors together is through subtle color coordination. Adding colors and materials to your coffee table that are similar to your seating, flooring, and wall color will add cohesiveness and a fully conceptualized aesthetic. We love how the green in this plant draws on the pastel green throw pillows and how the wooden bowl stacked on the black and gray books matches the duo-toned seating.

4. Pick Your Focal Point

While having more than one accent piece on your coffee table is important, having a focal point piece is also key. Choose one larger or taller piece that will serve as the attention-grabbing decor. A focal point can be a plant or bouquet, a larger sculptural piece,a decorative bowl, or statement candles. Your focal point doesn’t have to be oversized or over dramatic – as long as it’s bigger than the other pieces on your table, it will work as the “main” decor for your table.

5. Three is a Magic Number

Learning how to decorate a round coffee table doesn’t have to be overwhelming – in fact – there’s a simple trick you can use to keep your decor refined and sophisticated, without overdoing it. The rule of three is how we make sure our coffee table has just enough decor on it without taking up all of the space. This rule of three also goes with the triangle shape we recommend you create with your accent pieces. By keeping your decor count at three you can focus on creating that triangle shape that’s most flattering on round tables, each piece is a point in the triangle, which will prevent you from adding too much.

6. Don’t Neglect a Bottom Shelf

If your round coffee table has a lower shelf, do not ignore it! This is another great opportunity to add decor that didn’t make the top shelf cut. Sometimes there are more than three pieces you love and you simply need them on display – this is when that bottom storage area comes into play. Use this space for decorating with wider, shorter pieces, like coffee table books or decorative bowls. You can also rotate your pieces from top to bottom for an easy way to switch up your style.

7. Add Height With Stacking

Creating different height levels makes it easier to see all of your decor. The easiest way to create levels is using coffee table books as stands for your other pieces – particularly your focal point piece. Stacking is also a great way to add in another element to your styling if your table is on the smaller side.
