Tour a Blogger's French Country Dining Room

It's a feast for the eyes.

A Cinco de Mayo party setting

When Erin Vogelpohl of My Texas House decided to revamp her dining room, she had one goal in mind: create a space that was causal, yet sophisticated. “I wanted the room to feel cozy and not so formal that my guests wouldn’t feel comfortable,” she says. To strike the right balance, the Dallas blogger turned to palette of crisp neutrals and a mix of relaxed textures, like linen and distressed wood, to instill an element of warmth. Take a look.

For Vogelpohl, coming up with a color scheme was easy. “With a neutral palette, I can bring in color through small accents that can be changed over time,” she says. To create material interest in the neutral design, the blogger brought in a large buffet with mirrored accents, rustic glass cloches, and a chunky wool rug.

When it comes to setting a memorable table, Vogelpohl abides by a simple formula: “Candles, flowers, repeat,” she says. “They’re inexpensive touches that can transform a table.” The blogger also recommends varying the height of your candles to create visual interest. “Just be sure they aren’t so tall your guests can’t see other.”
