Mudroom Storage Ideas to Copy Immediately

Space-saving style for the win.

Whether your daily drop-spot for bags, shoes, and other essentials is a hardworking entryway or a spacious mudroom, keeping it organized is easier than you’d think. From dinnerware to garden planters, here are four everyday items that can completely transform your space.

1. Use kitchen bowls for keys and accessories.

Place a small bowl near the door for loose items. If space allows, use a matching set and dedicate each bowl for something different, like sunglasses, keys, or change, so that items are easy to grab on the way out.

2. Hang a wine rack to free up floor space.

Roll bulky fitness gear and seasonal essentials, like yoga mats, beach towels, or picnic blankets, into a wall-mounted wine rack to keep them nearby and out of the way. Then hang shopping bags and totes on extra hooks.

3. Convert a bookcase into storage cubbies.

Start with a tall bookcase, or flip a short one on its side, and remove a few of the shelves to add hooks for coats. Then, add a basket to the top shelf and tuck shoes underneath.

4. Mount planters near the door.

For unexpected vertical storage, hang a set of wall planters at eye level to collect clutter and corral items like mail, pet supplies, or small umbrellas. Then, fill one or two with fresh greenery for an extra welcoming space.
