3 Ways to Rethink Your Dining Room

Hint: They have nothing to do with dinner.

If your formal dining room is getting little use outside of the holiday season, it’s time to explore its hidden potential. Keeping the room’s tradition of togetherness in mind, our editors thought up three easy ways to get more use (and style) out of the space. Take a look.

1. Set up a coffee (or tea) station.

Top a console table or sideboard with your mugs, machines, and assorted coffee beans, using the drawers underneath to keep additional supplies, like napkins and silverware, within easy reach. Then bring in comfortable seating and a place to kick up your feet.

2. Create a command center.

Use the dining room for creative projects, homework, or tackling to-do lists by adding a sturdy work table with storage for essential supplies. For extra organization, bring in baskets and shelving, then hang memo boards to tack up inspiration or keep track of busy schedules.

3. Design a cozy library.

Start a new chapter in your dining room by lining the walls with shelves stacked with your favorite books. Bring in an arm chair (or two), then add a cozy throw blanket, pillows, and a task floor lamp to create a space where you can curl up and escape.
