The black pot on the inside is not painted and has black paint splotches on the inside - so when you look at it without a plant, it does not look good. However, once you put a plant in the pot and it covers the paint splotches, it is very pretty. There were a couple of dings on the outside of the pot that we have to cover with a black sharpie.
