Substantial. Came with a little wrench to ensure the base was secure. Thick metal base. Exactly what I was looking for in my space.

This lamp has a design flaw or the one we received is "bad". It tilts forward and no matter how much you tighten upper part to the base it has "play" that will allow it to topple over. Additionally, we think the lamp we received may have been a return as the bottom looks to have damage where someone previously tried to tighten the base to the rest of the lamp. Now I am going to have to take the lamp apart and try and get it boxed back up. And I'll have to pay a return fee. Not a happy customer. Will be my last time to order from here.
