It's fairly easy to assemble, and just remember to take your time. There are 3 parts to the tree, one tree stand, and then the power cord. The branches are hinged and initially wrapped tightly with a strand of garland. After unpacking and untwisting the garland holding the branches, you can gently lower each branch into place. The powercord is rather thin, so I will wrap a protective tube covering around the cord to deter my pets. There is an instruction booklet to help with connecting the cord throughout the tree pieces too. I went with the 7-foot tree, and it will be the tallest in my Christmas tree grove. I originally thought that 8 feet was too big because I have a 8 feet ceiling, but it turned out to be 7,6", which is perfect for me to put a tree topper on. Also, the base of a 8' is 54" instead of 34" for a 7’ which gives me more space to hang ornaments on. I would get an unlighted tree if you are thinking about the difference of cost (although I know it's expenses to light with “external” lights so it's all a wash). I swapped it out with a 7' and I really love the way that you can manipulate the wires for hanging ornaments on. It's a sparse tree which highlights the ornaments instead of the tree. I wanted to replace my large, very full tree with a more narrow tabletop tree, and this is very nice. It's a shock going from a big tree to a small tree, but I wanted to give it a chance. You'll have to spend the time fluffing and moving the branches around and tweaking it. A major bonus is that it doesn't shed. I actually bought it in January to use next December, but I wanted to go ahead and fluff it up and put decorations on it to make sure it's what I want and I'm happy with it.
