I originally thought that 8 feet was too big because I have a 8 feet ceiling, but it turned out to be 7,6", which is perfect for me to put a tree topper on. Also, the base of a 8' is 54" instead of 34" for a 7’ which gives me more space to hang ornaments on. I would get an unlighted tree if you are thinking about the difference of cost (although I know it's expenses to light with “external” lights so it's all a wash). I swapped it out with a 7' and I really love the way that you can manipulate the wires for hanging ornaments on. It's a sparse tree which highlights the ornaments instead of the tree.
