I originally thought that 8 feet was too big because I have a 8 feet ceiling, but it turned out to be 7,6", which is perfect for me to put a tree topper on. Also, the base of a 8' is 54" instead of 34" for a 7’ which gives me more space to hang ornaments on. I would get an unlighted tree if you are thinking about the difference of cost (although I know it's expenses to light with “external” lights so it's all a wash). I swapped it out with a 7' and I really love the way that you can manipulate the wires for hanging ornaments on. It's a sparse tree which highlights the ornaments instead of the tree. it takes a lot of fluffing to get this tree looking good. there are no branches close to the center as well as most do not have any greenery around the center, so pulling and prodding and moving the lights around to make it look fuller inside was a chore.
