This mattress has a good cost/benefit ratio. As most people purchasing online, I was apprehensive for not being able to try before buying and because most reviews I found in this site were quite subjective: what is too soft for one was too firm for someone else; furthermore, given the variety of models of this popular Sealy brand, I was not able to find an external opinion of "professional" mattress reviewers. So, I decided to give some hints for potential future buyers.
Pros: No gas-off smell, quick to expand, a "real medium", good cost/quality ratio
Cons: Sleeps hot, unwrapping
1. The look: the zippered cover of the mattress I received is different from the one in the picture (with the picture's looking better in terms of material and design). Nothing too terrible to live with.
2. Gas-off/smell: This one was one of the drivers of my decision, as chemical odors trigger my asthma; most customers indicated that they did not perceive any odor after unpacking the mattress. I can confirm: I perceived no odor at all.
3. Time to expand: The mattress expanded to its current size in a matter of 6-8 hours. It did not reach 10 inches but it's a bit over 9, which I consider satisfactory enough.
4. Firmness: I was looking for a real medium as I am a combo sleeper (side/back). I think this is a real medium (I would say 5.5 or 6 where 1 is super plush and 10 super firm). My weight is 160 and I am 5.8'. I was prepared to invest some of what I saved in this purchase to buy a topper -if the mattress proved too hard for my shoulders. So far, I think it won't be necessary. The upper layer is quite soft although far from allowing "sinkage". No backache at all, which tells me that the mattress is quite supportive
5. Cost: I am extremely satisfied with the price/quality ratio. With the wayfair 30%+ discount I paid $380 (with tax).
6. Temperature: While I may be still adapting to the mattress, I believe that I am sleeping a bit hot. Which is not strange for memory foam mattresses.
7. Edge support: I have mixed feelings about this one. Sleeping near the edge will not make you feel like falling; the support feels the same as in other areas of the mattress. However, when you sit to socks-in, you'll feel a noticeable lack of edge support.
8. Unwrapping: this is probably the most negative point (but is common to all mattresses in a box). Most youtube reviews will present the unwrapping at 3 or 4 times video speed and will even say that it was "fun". There is nothing fun about it. Be ready to take your time and be careful not to rip in the mattress textiles while cutting the multiple (like in very many) plastic layers that keep the mattress comprised and boxed
Some of the value of this mattress will also be given by its durability (which I don't know at this point). However, given the price I paid, I will be satisfied if it gives me 3 to 4 years without unleveling with concavities.
