This rug is *very* soft (not scratchy) but sturdy, and the design is beautiful. The tag says it's 80% viscose (artificial silk) and 20% cotton, and it feels that way - a delight to bare feet. The height variation in the pile design is larger than we anticipated, giving it a nice sculptural feel. The color is a little darker gray (at least in our space) than it looks in the photos but still tends to lighter than darker overall. There are also more shades of gray with flecks of black in the coloring than it appears in the photos, giving it a *slightly* striped look side to side. You can see this a bit if you mouse over the third photo in the description. All of these discoveries only heighten our appreciation for this rug ... it's much more interesting and beautiful than it appears in the photos, and we will be ordering 2 of the runners for our bedroom next!
